How do I get my Pro Audio Spectrum to work with Windows 95?

The Pro Audio Spectrum sound card, sold as a multimedia kit with the 2X
Philips CD-ROM will work fine with Windows 95. Philips has an updated 32-Bit
Driver for Windows 95 available on their web site.

However, the drivers that come with Windows 95 will work fine with this sound card.

Firstly, be sure that the MVSOUND.SYS line has been removed from the
CONFIG.SYS file.

NEVER RUN THE MULTIMEDIA RECOVERY DISKS IN WINDOWS 95!!!

Step-by-step --

Under Control Panel
then System
then Device Manager

You will see "sound, video and game controllers"

Under that selection you will see:

- Gameport Joystick
- Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum 16/Basic
- Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum 16/Plus/Studio Audio
- Media Vision Sound Blaster Compatibility*

*this line won't show if basic config is wrong

In DOS & Win 3.x, the MVSOUND.SYS driver used two interrupts and two dma's.
(e.g. D:5 Q:10 S:1,220,1,5)

The same situation exists in Windows95 -- the
Pro Audio Spectrum 16/Plus/Studio Audio, and the Sound Blaster Compatibility
each require a DMA and IRQ

These are controlled by the "Parent Device" - Pro Audio Spectrum 16/Basic

Double click on the parent device
By selecting the "Resources" tab under "Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum 16/Basic"
Clear the "Use Automatic Settings" checkbox
Use "Standard Configuration 1" use 0 only if it is a 205 version (single speed)

Then scroll through the resource settings to find the two sets of:

{**} Interrupt Request
{**} Direct Memory Access

Double click on the little blue box to the left of each selection to change the setting
Even though the conflict list may or may not say there is a conflict
try some of the standard settings for the Spectrum

Examples: For the Spectrum - IRQ 10, DMA 5 (1st child device)
For the Sound Blaster - IRQ 5, DMA 1 (2nd child device)

Click on "OK"
